CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Tara‑Lynn was weeks away from her seventeenth birthday when she learned she had type 1 diabetes (T1D), on top of living with cystic fibrosis. The diagnosis left her overwhelmed and angry, wondering how she would manage two serious conditions at once. Adjusting to diabetes meant strict routines, counting carbohydrates, taking insulin, treating lows, and learning to trust alarms and devices to keep her safe.
Over time, diabetes taught her a quiet strength. She learned to listen to her body, respect her limits, and move forward even on the hardest days. Living with both cystic fibrosis and diabetes has made her resilient and deeply appreciative of the simple, steady moments that many people never think twice about.
Tara‑Lynn has faced extraordinary challenges, including a double lung transplant and participating in a groundbreaking Edmonton trial that helped change how donor lungs are preserved. She uses her experience to help others, volunteering within the cystic fibrosis community and supporting the education of future doctors.
Her life has required immense strength, and she has turned that strength into purpose.
Tara‑Lynn is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and to show that diabetes is part of her story, but it will never define her.
