CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Dallas and Brooklyn have lived with celiac disease since age two, growing up very aware of their bodies. That awareness helped both girls catch their type 1 diabetes (T1D) diagnoses early—exactly one year apart.
Dallas was diagnosed at age 10 in March 2025 after noticing increased thirst and telling her parents something felt wrong. A quick blood glucose check confirmed T1D. From the start, she embraced learning injections, teaching her classmates, and even creating songs about diabetes. Now 11, she is excited to begin using an Omnipod 5 and continues to meet her diagnosis with positivity and confidence.
In March 2026, Brooklyn began experiencing intense thirst and asked Dallas to check her blood sugar. Her elevated numbers confirmed what she had long suspected. With everything the family learned from Dallas’ journey, she was able to start care calmly and without emergency. Just days after diagnosis, she attended a sleepover and managed her own carb counting, then returned to synchronized swimming without hesitation. While adjusting to more supervision at school has been challenging, she is quickly finding her new routine.
Brooklyn initially worried her diagnosis might impact the identity Dallas had built around T1D, but with her twin’s support, they have become a strong team. Both girls have grown more resilient, confident, and in tune with themselves.
Dallas loves singing, playing defense in hockey, spending time with friends, and going to the beach. Brooklyn is a natural in the water, loves synchronized swimming, camping, and being outdoors. They believe T1D is part of them—but it does not define them.
