CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
One of Mathew’s biggest challenges he faces when it comes to type 1 diabetes is managing blood sugar levels while doing activities, while working or writing an exam at school and if my blood sugar is out of range. It can make simple tasks difficult and time consuming. Another challenge Mathew faces is physical activity and working out. Getting my body in shape can be hard when you feel low, tired and weak so it takes extra planning and work just to do. These things are very frustrating especially because he goes to school every weekday and to the gym a lot. It is neither a curse nor a blessing but instead a challenge, Mathew plans on conquering.
Mathew's schoolwork and grades are very important to me. So, this is why writing exams with blood sugar in range is something he really focuses on and makes sure he doeshis best. There are no breaks. Some things that are so simple for everyone else take a lot of extra planning (meals, activity, exams, driving, sleepovers, etc.)
He wants others with diabetes to know that it gets easier and is manageable. “Focus on your health but still have fun and enjoy life. Don't do it alone, allow others to help and be there for you.”
Mathew wants to raise awareness, fundraise and because it is so great to be surrounded by people who understand type 1 diabetes and get to know others in the community.
Camp was such a great experience for Mathew and his family. It was so great to get to know others living with type 1 diabetes and their families and relate to each other. Everyone knew what you were going through and supported each other.
Please show your support by helping Mathew reach her fundraising goal.
