CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Makenzie was diagnosed with diabetes in July 2021, a moment that changed her life in ways both visible and invisible to others. Since her diagnosis, she has learned to navigate daily challenges such as emotional anxiety and confidence struggles that often come with managing a chronic condition. These challenges are not always seen by those around her, but they are a constant part of her journey. Over time, diabetes has shaped who Makenzie is today, helping her grow stronger and more resilient as she learns to face each day with determination and courage.
Living with diabetes has taught Makenzie patience and self-awareness, especially as she balances her condition with the activities and dreams that matter most to her. Some days are harder than others, and managing blood sugars while handling emotions can feel overwhelming. Still, she continues to push forward, knowing that perfection is not the goal and that progress happens one day at a time.
Outside of diabetes, Makenzie has a deep passion for soccer and dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. The sport gives her confidence, focus, and a sense of freedom. While diabetes sometimes adds extra planning and challenges, it has never taken away her love for the game or her drive to pursue her goals. Soccer has become both an outlet and a reminder that she is capable of achieving great things.
Makenzie is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help raise awareness and show others that living with diabetes does not limit dreams or potential. Her message to anyone newly diagnosed, or to those supporting someone with diabetes, is simple but powerful: time does heal, and there is no perfection in managing this disease. Take it one day at a time, give yourself grace, and know that you are not alone.
