CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Lilah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at age one, so she doesn’t remember the beginning of her diagnosis. For her, diabetes has simply been part of life as long as she can remember.

One of her biggest challenges is low blood sugar overnight, especially when it disrupts sleep. Those moments can be exhausting, because even when the world is quiet, diabetes still requires attention.

Lilah approaches diabetes with a steady confidence. She manages what she needs to manage, and she refuses to let T1D limit what she can do. She loves anything music related, along with dancing and fashion, and she continues to build a life that is joyful, expressive, and full.

She’s also found community through diabetes camp. Over the past four years, camp has given her friendships with people who truly understand what low blood sugar feels like and what it’s like to manage diabetes every day. This year, she’s excited to try a new camp, meet new friends, and keep growing in her independence.

Her advice is reassuring. It won’t be so bad after a while.
