CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Natalie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) three days before her sixth birthday. It was a frightening experience for her. She did not like needles, and the finger pokes and injections in the hospital were incredibly hard. Going home and having to take multiple needles every day was an even bigger adjustment. She had to learn how to count carbohydrates, wear her pump, and make sure her numbers were safe before playing outside with friends.
Over time, diabetes has made Natalie stronger. She has become braver during needles and blood work, and she has learned a lot about what healthy foods are. She shares her knowledge with kids at her school and in her community, helping others understand what diabetes is and what it means to live with it.
Outside of diabetes, Natalie loves art and is very talented. Creating artwork brings her joy and confidence.
Natalie is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness for kids like her and to show that diabetes is part of her life but it will never define her.
