CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Hunter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just three years old, so he does not remember much about life before his diagnosis—only how sick he felt at the time. In the beginning, diabetes created some social challenges, but things changed significantly once he started using an insulin pump. The pump made daily life easier by removing the need for injections and helping him feel more comfortable managing his diabetes. Because he was so young, Hunter did not fully understand how much diabetes shaped him as he grew, but he now recognizes how it helped form who he is today.

Living with diabetes has given Hunter a deep understanding of how people cope with illness. He describes himself as kind, happy, and someone who enjoys meeting new people. He believes his experiences have made him more empathetic and open, especially toward others facing challenges of their own. Hunter attended diabetes camp and loved having the opportunity to connect with others who were going through the same thing. Being surrounded by people who understood his journey made him feel supported, and he would absolutely recommend camp to others living with diabetes.

Hunter dreams of becoming a paramedic one day and believes strongly in perseverance. His message to others is simple but powerful: never give up. Even though the journey may feel hard at first, one day you will look back and see how much you have grown. Hunter is proud to model in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help raise awareness, challenge stigma, and show that diabetes does not limit what you can achieve.
