CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Hailey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was just 17 months old, so she doesn’t remember being diagnosed — or what life was like before diabetes. For Hailey, type 1 has simply always been part of her world.
One of the biggest challenges she faces is the exhaustion that can come from diabetes management, especially on days when blood sugar levels feel unpredictable and all over the place. Even when she doesn’t feel well, she still has to show up, function, and keep going — something most people don’t realize is happening behind the scenes.
Living with type 1 diabetes has made Hailey more responsible from a very young age. She’s carried a weight that many kids her age never have to think about: constant monitoring, planning, and decision-making, every single day.
Hailey’s passion is theatre. She has already been in two full shows and has seen countless musicals. Managing diabetes while performing is a learning curve of its own, but Hailey has found her own routine — including one very important trick: she always keeps juice in the wings, just in case.
Hailey is modelling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help normalize diabetes devices, raise awareness, and show others that you never need to hide what keeps you alive.
Her message to anyone newly diagnosed is empowering and direct:
Don’t be afraid to wear your devices loud and proud. Tell people what you need. If you need a snack, juice, or insulin, never feel embarrassed. Do what you need to do — and don’t be sorry.
