CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Rina was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) on June 30, 2015. At first, she didn’t understand what was happening. She felt confused and overwhelmed, and she had to learn quickly what it meant to live with a condition that touches every part of daily life. Over time, she found that her spontaneity shifted into structure, and her routines became more intentional around food, activity, and mental wellness.
Her biggest challenge is staying in range while also accepting that no two days are the same. Even with the best planning, diabetes can be unpredictable, and that’s part of what makes the experience so exhausting and so human.
Rina’s diagnosis was severe, with a blood glucose reading of 99.5 mmol at the time, and she was told she could have been in a coma or worse. That moment became fuel. It pushed her to choose health, chase balance, and keep showing up as the best version of herself.
Her message is full of hope. Everything will be okay. Learn as much as you can, build your community, and trust that the good days will outweigh the bad. It’s okay.
