CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Ayla was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) on December 12, 2022. The first day was not fun, but things got better as she learned how to manage her diabetes. While she does not face many challenges, one difficulty is going low or high during dance or gymnastics and having to step away to fix it. Missing time doing what she loves can be frustrating, but Ayla understands the importance of taking care of her health.

Living with diabetes has made Ayla more responsible. She remembers her supplies, checks her blood sugar, and sometimes has to wait to eat when her levels are high. She loves dance, gymnastics, and scuba diving, and diabetes has not stopped her from enjoying her hobbies. Ayla also loves attending D-Camp, where she spends time with friends who understand what living with diabetes is like. She would definitely recommend camp as a great place to make new friends and feel supported.
