CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Mindy was diagnosed with diabetes at 26, and her medical team describes her as a rockstar. Her diagnosis is unique — her care team is still unsure whether she has type 1 diabetes (T1D) or type 2 diabetes (T2D), believing she may fall somewhere between. Despite the uncertainty, diabetes has helped Mindy build a healthier, more balanced lifestyle, and she is now more fit than she was before her diagnosis.
As technology has advanced, Mindy is grateful for the tools that make managing diabetes easier, including her continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump. She is also thankful for the support she has found within the diabetes community.
Mindy wants people to know she can eat what others eat — just differently. Diabetes takes timing, testing, and patience, and while it can be frustrating, she finds it completely manageable. She is proud of how well she maintains her levels and how she has embraced new technology over the years.
After participating in last year’s modeling show, Mindy learned about D‑Camps for the first time. This year, she is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and to show that wearing medical devices is nothing to be ashamed of. She loves helping others understand what life with diabetes really looks like.
