CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Lilah was just eight months old when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in August of 2022. At that age, she was too young to understand or talk about what was happening, but for her parents, especially as new parents, the diagnosis changed their entire world overnight. Navigating bottles, diapers, and blood sugar checks all at once brought a new level of complexity to everyday life.
Today, Lilah mostly does very well with her diabetes. The hardest moments for her are waiting for her blood sugar to come back up after a low and having to go through port changes. Even when those moments are tough, she does not let them slow her down. Lilah talks about her diabetes openly and proudly tries to be involved in her care. She has learned her numbers and likes helping with her insulin pump, showing determination and confidence far beyond her years.
Lilah is strong-willed and fiercely independent. She insists on being a “big girl” and approaches life with confidence and curiosity. She loves spending time with her friends, playing dress-up, and experimenting with makeup. One of her happiest places is the water—she absolutely loves swimming and truly believes she is a mermaid. At home, she shines as a caring big sister, taking great pride in helping look after her little sister.
Her best friend is her grandma, who plays a special role in her life and supports her every step of the way. With the love of her family and her own determined spirit, Lilah continues to face diabetes with courage, resilience, and joy. She is learning early that diabetes is just one part of her story, and it will never stop her from being exactly who she is meant to be.
Lilah is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness for children living with type 1 diabetes and to show that even the smallest fighters can be incredibly strong.
