CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Emily remembers feeling scared and unsure when she was first diagnosed with diabetes. The diagnosis brought many worries about what the future would look like, and now it is hard for her to remember life without diabetes. It quickly became part of her everyday routine and shaped how she takes care of herself.

One of Emily’s biggest challenges is navigating social situations. She sometimes worries that others judge her because of her diabetes, especially when she experiences low blood sugar in public. While these moments can be uncomfortable, they have helped her grow stronger and more self-aware.

Living with diabetes has taught Emily responsibility and has helped her prioritize her health. She has learned to listen to her body and advocate for herself. She wants anyone who is newly diagnosed to know that even though it feels overwhelming at first, it does get better, and you will learn so much in a short amount of time.

Emily attended D-Camp and loved seeing so many people with diabetes in one place. It made her feel understood and supported. She is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and show that diabetes is part of her life, but it does not define her.
