CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Ashlynn was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on April 26, 2020, just ten days before her ninth birthday. Since then, she has learned how to manage daily challenges like checking her blood sugar, taking insulin, and listening closely to her body. While diabetes can be hard at times, it has taught Ashlynn responsibility, strength, and independence at a young age. It has also helped her become more patient and appreciative of the good days.

Ashlynn is passionate about competitive dance, which is where she feels most confident and strong. Dance allows her to express herself while pushing her physically and mentally, especially when preparing for competitions. Balancing diabetes with long practices takes effort and planning, but Ashlynn continues to rise to the challenge.

Through dance and daily diabetes management, Ashlynn has learned perseverance and self-belief. She wants others to know that living with diabetes can feel overwhelming at first, but it does get easier with time and support. Diabetes is a part of her life, but it does not define her—it helps make her strong, determined, and proud of who she is.
