CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Anna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was just 3 years old, so she doesn’t remember the day it happened. But her parents do. They remember how hard it was at first, learning how to manage needles, finger pricks, and all the new routines that suddenly became part of daily life.
Not long after, Anna started using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and an insulin pump, and it was a complete game changer. Those tools helped her (and her family) feel more confident and supported as they adjusted to their new normal.
One of Anna’s biggest challenges today is managing low blood sugar. When her levels drop, it can be hard to focus and concentrate — especially when she’s at school or in the middle of something she loves.
Even with those challenges, Anna’s life is full of energy, joy, and determination. Living with diabetes has helped shape her into someone who is strong, resilient, and positive. She takes on challenges with confidence, and she continues to show everyone around her that diabetes doesn’t get to decide what she can do.
Anna recently started Highland Scottish dancing and even performed at a Scottish dancing festival. She also loves to skate, swim, flip upside down, and climb on the monkey bars — always moving, always exploring, always being her fearless self.
Anna is also a huge fan of D-Camps, where she has been able to meet other kids and adults living with diabetes. Being surrounded by people who truly understand what it’s like has helped her feel included, supported, and proud of who she is. Anna would rate D-Camps a 10/10, and she would encourage every kid living with diabetes to go.
Anna is modelling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help raise awareness, build community, and show the world that kids living with diabetes can do anything.
Her message is simple and powerful: "Never give up. Always stay positive. Diabetes doesn’t have to stop you. You can do anything you want to do."
