CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Amy was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in June 2015. The moment her doctor told her, she broke down in tears. After months of feeling unwell, she finally had an answer. The diagnosis brought clarity, but it also brought fear, frustration, and a completely new way of living.

Daily diabetes management quickly became one of Amy’s biggest challenges. Injecting insulin in public often led to stares or judgments. She has even been told to go to a bathroom to take her insulin instead of doing so at the table. The emotional toll of these moments stays with her. Managing injections, remembering insulin doses, and making sure they are enough to cover each meal requires constant mental effort. Diabetes has made her far more aware of what she eats and the reactions people sometimes have when she explains her diagnosis.

Despite these challenges, Amy has become passionate about educating others. She shares her experience openly, helping break stigma and encouraging people to understand the realities of living with diabetes. She believes strongly in not letting diabetes limit the things you love.

Amy is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and show others that diabetes is part of her life, but it will never define her.
