CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Minetta was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in May 2025 at 17 years old, just as she was finishing high school. Leading up to her diagnosis, she remembers repeatedly questioning her symptoms and not fully believing what she read online until her fasting glucose confirmed it. Already living with celiac disease, Minetta was familiar with managing an autoimmune condition and adapting her diet, so learning to count carbohydrates and monitor insulin became an extension of skills she already had.

The biggest adjustment for Minetta was the social side of diabetes, especially using insulin injections in public and carrying extra supplies. Transitioning to an insulin pump gave her more freedom and made daily management easier, although challenges like site changes and fluctuating blood sugars can still be stressful. Living with T1D has made her more resilient, empathetic, and aware of how food and stress affect her body.

Outside of diabetes, Minetta loves to sing and perform, and she dreams of becoming an actor and singer-songwriter. Attending D-Camps after her diagnosis was a turning point, allowing her to connect with others who truly understood life with T1D and helping her feel supported and confident. Minetta is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and share her message with others newly diagnosed: it does get easier, you are not alone, and diabetes does not define who you are.
