CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
David was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at three years old, meaning he has lived nearly his entire life managing the condition. Growing up in the early 1980s, diabetes care looked very different than it does today. While he doesn’t remember life before diagnosis, he remembers how each decade brought new technology that made management more precise—and how dramatically blood sugar highs and lows can affect both mind and body.
Over the years, David has learned to be mindful not only of his own needs, but also of the challenges others may be facing that aren’t visible. This awareness has shaped both his personal life and his career. Professionally, he is a Certified Financial Planner who supports individuals eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, helping them navigate financial planning with empathy and understanding.
Despite the constant work that T1D requires, diabetes has never defined David or limited what he can achieve. He is a Shodan in Judo, a hockey referee, a parent, a business owner, and an active member of his community. He takes pride in everything he has built and accomplished, and he refuses to let diabetes overshadow who he is.
David is participating in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help raise awareness and show that people living with T1D are strong, capable, and multifaceted. Diabetes is part of his story—but it is only one piece of who he is.
