CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes

Noah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 11. It was a major change for him and his entire family. Like many parents of children diagnosed with diabetes, Noah’s mom worried constantly, especially in the early days. She would wake up multiple times throughout the night to check his blood sugar, carrying the stress and responsibility that comes with learning how to keep your child safe in a new reality.

Even with the challenges of T1D, Noah has continued doing the things he loved before his diagnosis. He enjoys playing hockey, snowboarding, mountain biking, and creating art. His story is a powerful reminder that diabetes may require extra planning and daily work, but it does not take away passion, drive, or the ability to live fully.

One of Noah’s biggest challenges is managing stress. Stressful moments, such as hockey games or tests, can significantly impact his blood sugar levels. Noah is an open book and wants people to understand how much work diabetes management truly requires every single day. Much of that effort is invisible, but it is constant, and it takes resilience.

Noah’s message is honest and encouraging. Managing diabetes takes practice, and even people who have lived with it for years still have days that do not go as planned. Those difficult days are not failure. They are part of the reality of living with diabetes, and the most important thing is to keep learning and keep going.

Today, Noah is pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of Manitoba and hopes to eventually attend medical school. He is proud of what he has accomplished, and he is determined to keep moving forward.

Noah is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and show that diabetes will not hold him back. He hopes his story inspires others and helps support D-Camps, where children and teens living with diabetes can build confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships.
