CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Jaci was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of five and a half. Since then, diabetes has been a constant part of her life, woven into her daily routine at home, at work, and in everything she does. Over time, managing diabetes became second nature, even though it requires constant attention and planning.
One of Jaci’s biggest challenges is balancing diabetes management during busy workdays. Monitoring blood sugar levels, planning meals, and staying prepared are ongoing responsibilities that demand focus and flexibility. Despite this, Jaci continues to navigate her days with confidence and care.
Living with diabetes has shaped Jaci into someone who is adaptable, resilient, and deeply aware of her body. She recognizes that diabetes is part of her daily life, but it has never stopped her from pursuing her goals or living fully.
Jaci believes strongly in the importance of visibility. She feels comfortable being publicly visible as a person living with diabetes and understands how representation can help challenge stigma and shift perceptions. By showing up openly, she hopes to help others feel less alone.
Jaci attended D-Camps throughout her childhood, including Camp Jean Nelson, where being surrounded by others living with diabetes made a meaningful difference in her life. The sense of community and belonging left a lasting impact, and she would recommend D-Camps to other kids living with diabetes.
Jaci is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help change the conversation around diabetes and to show that it does not limit who she is or what she can do.
