CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Chloe was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in a moment she will never forget. She was ready to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, but instead she ended up spending the night in the hospital. Chloe remembers feeling scared and confused, and she especially remembers all the needles. In an instant, her world changed, and she began learning what it meant to live with diabetes every day.
One of Chloe’s biggest challenges is managing blood sugar levels during the moments that matter most. When she is low, she sometimes has to stop playing or sit out while her friends continue. When her blood sugar is high, especially at parties, she can feel afraid to eat snacks or cake, even when everyone else is enjoying the fun without thinking twice.
Even through those hard moments, Chloe has built something powerful: confidence. She has learned that diabetes is something she manages, and it does not control her. Chloe also recognizes that many people do not understand what diabetes is or how it works, so she uses her voice to help educate others and create more understanding.
Outside of diabetes, Chloe is full of creativity and joy. She loves dancing, drawing, and making surprise bags for her friends. She is thoughtful, artistic, and always looking for ways to make the people around her smile.
Chloe’s message to others living with diabetes is hopeful and wise. Some days will be hard and some days will be easy, but changing your mindset makes a difference. When you focus on the good things around you, the people working toward a cure, and the people who support you, those hard days become easier to manage.
Chloe is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and support D-Camps. By sharing her story, she is helping others see that kids living with diabetes are strong, capable, and never alone.
