CHANGING THE CONVERSATION for People Living With Diabetes
Megan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in 2005. While she remembers little of the earliest days following her diagnosis, living with diabetes has been a constant presence throughout her life. Over time, she has learned how to balance daily management with independence, growth, and exploration.
One of Megan’s biggest challenges is the mental load that comes with diabetes. From constantly tracking blood sugar levels to planning ahead for meals, activities, and travel, diabetes requires ongoing attention. Despite this, Megan has built resilience and confidence, learning how to adapt and care for herself in every situation.
Megan loves to travel and explore new places. Experiencing the world while managing diabetes has shown her just how capable she is, reinforcing her belief that diabetes should never limit her goals or curiosity.
Megan attended D-Camps, where she was able to see firsthand what is possible when surrounded by a supportive diabetes community. Meeting others with shared experiences helped her feel understood and inspired, and she would strongly recommend D-Camps to other kids living with diabetes.
Megan is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help change the conversation around diabetes and to remind others that living with diabetes is not something to hide. Through visibility, connection, and confidence, she hopes to support a more informed and stigma-free future.
